1. Introduction

Welcome to nowpray (“we,” “us,” or “our”). nowpray is a mobile application that helps Muslims track daily prayers, view prayer times, and receive local reminders. A Qibla finder is coming in an upcoming update.

This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information when you use the nowpray app and visit this website. We are committed to transparency and to minimizing the data we collect. In the current version of nowpray, most of your data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

nowpray is operated by the nowpray development team. For privacy-related questions, please contact us at privacy@nowpray.app.

This website (nowpray.app or equivalent hosting) is an informational marketing site. It does not require an account and does not use analytics cookies by default.

3. Information we collect

The information nowpray may process depends on how you use the app and which permissions you grant.

3.1 Information stored locally on your device

The following data is saved on your phone or tablet using local storage (SQLite database and SharedPreferences). It remains on your device unless you delete the app or clear app data:

• Prayer logs — which prayers you marked, status (early, on time, late, very late, missed), date, and optional details (e.g. in masjid, first row, with takbeer, alone or with jamaat).
• Prayer times cache — calculated prayer times for dates you view, including sunrise, to support offline access.
• User settings — location label and coordinates, madhab, calculation method, time format, prayer scope (farz / sunnah / nawafil), notification preferences, and theme (light/dark).
• App flow state — whether onboarding and initial setup have been completed.

3.2 Location information

If you enable location access, nowpray uses your device’s GPS and geocoding services to determine your city and coordinates for accurate prayer time calculation. Location may be stored locally on your device. We do not operate a backend server that receives your location in the current app version.

3.3 Device sensors

The Qibla finder (coming soon) will use your device’s compass and motion sensors. When it launches, sensor readings will be processed in real time on your device and will not be stored or transmitted by nowpray. The current version does not use these sensors.

3.4 Notifications

If you enable prayer alerts, nowpray schedules local notifications on your device using calculated prayer times. These alerts are generated and delivered on-device; we do not use a remote push notification server for prayer reminders.

3.5 Sign-in (when available)

The app may offer sign-in options such as Google, Apple, or email. When account features are enabled in a future release, the identity provider you choose (e.g. Google or Apple) may process your account information according to their own privacy policies. We will update this policy before enabling cloud sync or account-based features and will describe any additional data collected at that time.

3.6 Website

This marketing website does not require login. Standard web server logs from your hosting provider (e.g. IP address, browser type, pages visited) may be collected by the host for security and operations. We do not intentionally embed third-party advertising or tracking on this site.

4. How we use information

We use information solely to provide and improve nowpray:

• Calculate and display accurate prayer times for your location.
• Record and display your prayer history and statistics.
• Schedule local prayer reminders you configure.
• Show Qibla direction using your location and device compass (when the Qibla finder launches).
• Remember your preferences (theme, madhab, calculation method, alerts).
• Cache prayer times for offline use.

We do not use your prayer logs or location for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.

5. Storage & retention

Prayer logs, settings, and cached times are stored in an on-device SQLite database and app preferences. Data is retained until you delete it or uninstall the app.

Uninstalling nowpray or clearing app storage from your device settings will remove locally stored prayer logs, settings, and caches, subject to your operating system’s behavior.

Scheduled local notifications are managed by your device’s operating system and are removed when you disable alerts or uninstall the app.

6. Device permissions

nowpray may request the following permissions:

• Location (while in use or always, depending on OS) — to calculate prayer times. You can deny location and enter a city manually where supported.
• Notifications — to deliver prayer reminders you enable.
• Motion & orientation / compass — for the Qibla finder feature (coming soon; not used in the current version).

You can revoke permissions at any time in your device settings. Some features may not work without the relevant permission.

7. Sharing & third parties

In the current version, nowpray does not upload your prayer logs or personal settings to our own servers.

Your device’s operating system and platform services may process data as part of normal operation:

• Apple / Google — if you use Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In (when enabled), their authentication services apply.
• Geocoding services — provided by the platform (e.g. Apple or Google geocoding) when resolving city names from coordinates.
• App stores — Apple App Store and Google Play process downloads, updates, and payments (if any) per their policies.

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the public.

8. Children’s privacy

nowpray is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at privacy@nowpray.app and we will take appropriate steps to delete it where applicable.

9. Your rights & choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

• Access, correct, or delete personal data we hold (if any cloud features are added).
• Withdraw consent for optional permissions (location, notifications) via device settings.
• Export or delete local data by managing app storage or uninstalling the app.
• Opt out of optional sign-in or cloud features when offered.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or similar jurisdictions, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when we add features (such as cloud backup, accounts, or analytics). We will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. For material changes, we may notify you in the app where appropriate.

Continued use of nowpray after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
